Flash Floods and Landslides Hit Himalayan Village, Dozens Missing
UTTARKASHI DISTRICT, UTTARAKHAND, AUG 7 – Rescue operations by Army and multiple agencies continue after Uttarkashi floods caused by cloudburst; over 70 rescued and 50 remain missing amid debris and landslides.
- On August 7, 2025, the Indian Army said it intensified rescue operations by establishing an ad-hoc aviation base at Matli Helipad with Mi-17 and Chinook helicopters.
- Following Tuesday’s cloudburst in Dharali, landslides blocked roads to Gangotri, isolating residents and pilgrims in Uttarkashi district, Uttarakhand.
- Multiple agencies are mobilised, including the National Disaster Response Force, State Disaster Response Force, Indo-Tibetan Border Police, with over 450 personnel conducting rescue tasks, Army said.
- So far, 274 people have been rescued, with at least four fatalities confirmed, according to authorities.
- Advanced rescue equipment, ground-penetrating radars, and sniffer dogs are being deployed, with an NDRF team and veterinarians joining efforts, as the Army said.

The disaster that struck Dharali in Uttarkashi on August 5 has caused massive destruction. Even after three days, the roads to reach Dharali are closed, air route is the only means of transport.
