To keep the overloaded power grid in the province of Utrecht reliable, gas generators will be deployed starting next summer. This will prevent grid overload during periods of extremely high demand for electricity, especially in winter. They will only be activated when absolutely necessary.
To support the overloaded power grid in Utrecht, gas generators will be deployed next year. The generators can provide extra power at times when electricity demand is high. The power grid is being expanded in Gelderland, Utrecht, and the Flevopolder, but that expansion is facing delays. For example, two power stations north of Utrecht are taking longer to be completed. Therefore, TenneT and grid operator Stedin are installing gas generators in t…
Stedin taps Rolls-Royce mtu gas gensets for grid stability
Image courtesy Rolls-Royce mtu Rolls-Royce, in a consortium with Flexpowernet, has been awarded a contract by Dutch grid operator Stedin to supply 24 containerised mobile mtu gas gensets, which will be deployed flexibly in the province of Utrecht to stabilise the power grid. The units, with a total output of 60MW, are to be deployed from the third quarter of 2026. According to Rolls-Royce in a release, the project is being driven by the rapid ex…
Starting in late 2026, six locations in the province of Utrecht will be equipped with large gas generators. Grid operator Stedin is taking this step to prevent the impending overload of the power grid. The generators will only be used during peak demand periods, but the measure is striking: just as the Netherlands is moving away from fossil fuels, people are consciously opting for gas.
