US tariff refunds start rolling out as Oshkosh, Basic Fun report receiving payments
U.S. Customs and Border Protection has begun issuing payments after validating claims, with 56,497 importers cleared for electronic refunds worth $127 billion.
On Tuesday, U.S. Customs and Border Protection began issuing tariff refunds to importers, marking the start of a process to return up to about $166 billion collected under a program the Supreme Court invalidated earlier this year.
The Supreme Court struck down President Donald Trump's tariffs imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act in February, affecting more than 330,000 importers who paid duties on 53 million shipments.
Heavy-Truck maker Oshkosh Corp and toy maker Basic Fun confirmed Tuesday they received partial refund payments; CEO Jay Foreman of Basic Fun said funds are 'trickling out' but will support 2026 cash flow.
Seeking a share of the refunds, customers filed lawsuits against companies like Nike and Costco, while logistics firms including UPS, FedEx, and DHL stated they will file for refunds on behalf of their customers.
The refund rollout continues in phases as officials review millions of entries submitted by businesses, while President Trump criticized the court's decision on Truth Social, calling the refund situation 'crazy.
