- The U.S. Justice Department has filed a civil complaint against eBay, accusing the online marketplace of unlawfully selling and distributing hundreds of thousands of products that violate environmental laws.
- The complaint alleges that eBay sold over 343,000 aftermarket devices designed to evade motor vehicle emissions controls, as well as at least 23,000 unregistered, misbranded, or restricted-use pesticides.
- Among the pesticides sold by eBay were a high-toxicity insecticide banned in the U.S. and a product claiming to protect against the virus that causes COVID-19. eBay could face billions of dollars in penalties for violating the Clean Air Act and other environmental laws.
