Precision Strike Missile, Made Possible by Trump's Treaty Withdrawal, Has Combat Debut Against Iran
The US Army used Precision Strike Missiles for the first time in combat to target Iranian-linked sites, including command centers and ballistic missile locations, CENTCOM said.
- In a historic first, U.S. Central Command posted a video showing a Precision Strike Missile launch from a M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System during Operation Epic Fury.
- Created to replace the MGM-140 Army Tactical Missile System , PrSM Increment 1 extends strike reach to at least 500 kilometers, enhancing the Army’s long-range options.
- Alongside the PrSM launch, Operation Epic Fury drew on B-2 bombers, F-35 Lightning II fighters, the Low-cost Unmanned Combat Attack System drone modeled on Shahed-136, and PrSMs launched from M270A2 MLRS with Patriot and THAAD systems.
- Despite officials limiting details, CENTCOM Commander Adm. Brad Cooper said CENTCOM declined to specify targets while praising personnel for leveraging innovation.
- Planned upgrades include PrSM Increment 2 multimode seeker and Increment 3 enhanced lethality, while the Army has tapped Lockheed Martin and Raytheon Technologies–Northrop Grumman team for Increment 4 designs flying more than 1,000 km.
