- On Monday, U.S. Special Envoy Thomas Barrack declared 'Syria stands at a critical juncture' and said there is 'no Plan B' to working with the current authorities, in an exclusive AP interview in Beirut.
- Following more than a week of clashes, sectarian violence between Druze militias and Sunni Bedouin tribes escalated, with Israel launching airstrikes on convoys and Damascus targets, and Syrian forces redeploying to secure evacuations.
- Regarding Israeli airstrikes, Barrack said `came at a very bad time` and labeled the killings, revenge and massacres `intolerable`, adding that the U.S. was not asked nor did it participate in those strikes.
- Over the weekend, the U.S. brokered a ceasefire between Syria and Israel, it followed government withdrawals from Sweida under a separate deal with Druze leaders, and Barrack said it addresses only the conflict in Sweida.
- In looking ahead, Barrack spoke with SDF leader Mazloum Abdi and predicted a breakthrough `in the coming weeks`, stressing that the U.S. has `no position` on a Syria-Turkey defense pact, while noting Turkey offered defense assistance to Syria.
