The US administration imposed new visa restrictions, which entered into force on 1 January 2026, to the detriment, in particular, of several African countries. Access to US territory thus became a diplomatic lever to serve economic and strategic interests. Since June 2025, Donald Trump's administration has introduced a visa ban on many countries, including several in Africa. The scheme was extended in January 2026 with the addition of new states.
