US-China Tensions Rise Over Peruvian Port
A Peruvian court limited Ositran's oversight of the $1.3 billion Chinese-backed Chancay port, raising U.S. concerns about sovereignty and regional influence.

- In response to questions from The Associated Press, Peru's Foreign Ministry said the court ruling `in no way involves aspects of sovereignty` and emphasized police, environmental regulators, and customs monitor the port.
- China's Embassy in Peru did not respond to requests for comment, and the U.S. State Department's Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs warned, `Let this be a cautionary tale for the region and the world: cheap Chinese money costs sovereignty.
