US clears $93 million sale of Javelin anti-tank system, Excalibur projectiles to India
The $93 million sale includes 100 Javelin missiles and 216 Excalibur artillery rounds to enhance India's defense capabilities and strategic ties with the US, DSCA said.
- On Thursday , the U.S. State Department's Defense Security Cooperation Agency approved two Foreign Military Sales to India worth about $92.8m, delivering the required certification to Congress.
- India has been shifting its suppliers, prompting a drop in Russia's share from 62% to 34% between 2017 and 2023, while a 10-year framework agreement signed in October helps deepen defence cooperation amid eased tariff tensions.
- The approved Javelin package contains 100 FGM-148 rounds, one 'fly-to-buy' missile, 25 Command Launch Units, training, simulation rounds and lifecycle support, while the Excalibur sale covers 216 M982A1 rounds with fire-control and repair services.
- The Defense Security Cooperation Agency said the transfers will improve Indian armed forces' ability to meet threats, strengthen US-India ties, and will not alter regional military balance or US defence readiness.
- Contractors named for the cases include RTX Corporation for Excalibur and Lockheed Martin JV for Javelin, with approvals modest in value but strategically significant, and New Delhi will soon receive the systems and support.
