UPS to Cut 30K Jobs
UPS aims to save $3 billion by cutting 30,000 operational jobs and closing 24 facilities due to reduced Amazon deliveries and declining package volumes.
- On Tuesday, United Parcel Service announced it will cut up to 30,000 jobs in 2026 due to fewer Amazon deliveries, expecting to save $3 billion.
- Last year, UPS reduced 48,000 positions and 15,000 fewer seasonal roles, closed 93 facilities, added automation in 57, and plans to close 24 locations in the first half of this year.
- Implementing the reductions through attrition and voluntary separation offers for full-time drivers, Dykes said, "Plus, we plan to further deploy automation across the network" and UPS retired MD-11 cargo planes at a $137 million cost.
- Union spokesperson Kara Deniz said members will reject the buyout and called it `disrespectful`, with cuts following last year's reductions at UPS, which employed about half a million employees.
- UPS says, 'Considering drivers overwhelmingly rejected it the first time,' the Teamsters union said, amid lower China shipment volumes and policy pressures.
