United Utilities pays £500k to clean up river

United Utilities has paid £517,000 after sewage was discharged into the River Tame following permit breaches at one of its wastewater treatment works. The Environment Agency secured the payment after investigating three breaches at Ashton-under-Lyne wastewater treatment works.
