In Tiel, parties pushed for a council-wide coalition – including Forum for Democracy. When two parties declined to participate, Pro realized that it would then be accepting cooperation from a party being boycotted nationally. This led to a hasty retreat.
Tiel in Gelderland looks set to become the first municipality in the Netherlands where Forum for Democracy will have a major say in local government. The party intends to ‘participate in the municipal executive without providing an alderman’. Remarkably, Forum is doing this in a deal with PRO – the merger party of the PvdA and GroenLinks.
