The UN has warned that civilians in Sudan are facing starvation, a rapidly spreading cholera outbreak and what they called “unspeakable atrocities” – as fierce fighting continues between government troops and paramilitary fighters. Aid agencies have been unable to deliver urgently needed food, water and medical supplies to parts of the Western Darfur region – where local leaders say living conditions are now unbearable.
