The Foreign Affairs Committees of the Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian parliaments adopted a joint statement at a meeting in Birštonas last week, pledging to support Ukraine in its pursuit of membership in the European Union (EU) and NATO. The statement places particular emphasis on the need to secure Ukraine’s membership in the EU, with the aim of completing accession negotiations by 1 January 2030.
The European Union is inviting candidate countries to join this part of its single market for the first time in history.
R. Moldova and Ukraine are continuing to take an important step, although more symbolic, towards joining the European Union on 1 January 2026, then the two EU candidate countries will become part of the EU's mobile phone system – "Roam like at home".
The Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, on 1 January 2026, will become part of the Community block’s mobile phone system – ‘Roam like at home’ (Roaming as home’). It is one of the most popular EU policies, allowing people who have mobile phone membership in a Member State of the European Union to be taxed at national rates for calls, messages and mobile data when visiting another Member State.
