Russia’s Afipsky Oil Refinery on Fire After Drone Attack, Two Dead, Governor Says
Governor Veniamin Kondratyev said falling drone debris killed two people, injured two others and damaged at least 10 homes near the refinery.
- On Aug. 25, Ukrainian forces reportedly struck the Afipsky Oil Refinery in Krasnodar Krai overnight, according to Russian Telegram channels, as air raid alerts were active in the region.
- Shifting its focus toward Russia's e-commerce industry, Ukraine targeted Wildberries and Ozon facilities; on Aug. 22, forces struck the Novokuibyshevskyi oil refinery and an Ozon logistics center in Samara Oblast.
- Processing roughly 6.25 million tons of crude annually, the Afipsky refinery accounts for about 2% of Russia's refining output, and social media photos appear to show a large fire at the site.
- Elsewhere, active air defense was reported near the Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery in Russia's Rostov Oblast, though no damage to that facility was immediately documented following the activity.
- The Kyiv Independent could not immediately verify the reports of the strikes, and Ukraine's military has not yet commented, leaving the extent of damage at targeted locations unclear.
