Ukraine Destroys Half of Russia's 'Key' Pantsir Air Defense Systems, Security Service Says
The Security Service of Ukraine's Alpha unit destroyed Russian Pantsir systems worth about $4 billion to weaken air defenses and enable deep strikes, the SBU said.
- The SBU said on Feb. 14 that its Alpha unit destroyed roughly half of Russia's Pantsir systems in 2025 through long-range strikes.
- The SBU said the campaign aims to break through Russian air defenses and create corridors for strikes deep into rear areas by systematically targeting Pantsir systems.
- SBU estimated approximately $4 billion in destroyed systems, noting a single Pantsir costs $15 million to $20 million and Ukraine struck a $100 million 55Zh6U 'Nebo-U' radar near Yevpatoriia on Feb. 12.
- The SBU said the campaign was aimed at weakening Russia's air-defense network, allowing Ukraine's Defense Forces to more effectively target military bases, warehouses, airfields, and other occupier facilities.
- Amid wider economic strain, Russia reported 7.5 trillion rubles in losses in 2025, while the SBU said Pantsir-S1 is a key system effective against Ukrainian long-range drones.
