UK airline promises to avoid controversial extra charge 'until summer 2028'
Jet2 says the guarantee will give customers price certainty as oil prices rise, and it applies to all bookings across every sales channel.
Jet2 pledged on Monday not to introduce fuel surcharges on bookings until at least summer 2028, ensuring customers pay the price quoted at booking despite rising oil costs linked to Middle East conflict.
Airline surcharges, such as those Virgin Atlantic introduced in April ranging from £50 to £360, have drawn criticism from politicians and consumer advocates who say post-booking fees are unfair and excessive.
David Hills, chief customer officer at Jet2, said: "Customers work and save hard for their holidays so they deserve certainty." The airline was the first to commit to removing surcharge clauses from its contract.
The airline has reached 30 operational Airbus A321neo aircraft, which feature curved wingtips known as "sharklets" that reduce fuel consumption by over 20% and provide a 50% lower noise footprint.
Jet2 revealed earlier this year that it will upgrade its passenger experience with new, lightweight seats in 2027 on its A321neo fleet, which carries up to 244 people depending on layout.
