Uganda's Kiplimo regains world half marathon record in Lisbon
- On Sunday, Jacob Kiplimo set a new men's half marathon world record of 57 minutes and 20 seconds at the Lisbon Half Marathon in Lisbon, after deciding the record was possible past 10km.
- The race began at a rapid pace despite no pacemakers, with Kiplimo covering the first five kilometres in 13:28 and the leaders reaching the 10km mark in 27:00; Kiplimo said he pushed in the final two kilometres.
- Kenya's Nicholas Kipkorir finished second in 58:08, with Gilbert Kiprotich third in 58:59, and Kipkorir crossing 48 seconds behind the winner.
- The Lisbon win returns Kiplimo to the top of the record books after his 57:31 2021 mark was briefly eclipsed by Ethiopian runner Yomif Kejelcha in Valencia.
- Despite an unratified 56:42 in Barcelona last year, Kiplimo's performance in Lisbon set a new world half marathon record, the first since his 2021 mark was surpassed.
