UAE fast tracks second West-East oil pipeline to bypass Strait of Hormuz
The project will double ADNOC export capacity by 2027 as global energy supplies stay under pressure and flows through the Strait of Hormuz remain limited.
On Friday, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled called for accelerating construction of a second West-East oil pipeline to Fujairah, aiming to bypass the Strait of Hormuz chokepoint.
Ongoing attacks on energy infrastructure and shipping have severely limited flows through the Strait of Hormuz, curtailing The UAE's ability to restore production that reached over 3 million BPD before the war.
Abu Dhabi National Oil Company targets 4.9 million BPD, yet current output remains between 1.8 and 2.1 million, as The Abu Dhabi Crude Oil Pipeline can carry only 1.8 million barrels.
Expected online in 2027, the project will double ADNOC's export capacity, while the Crown Prince said the company is "well positioned as a responsible and reliable global energy producer" with operational flexibility.
Departing OPEC earlier this month, The Emirates is independently managing its oil future amid regional security risks and infrastructure constraints limiting production recovery.
The United Arab Emirates is accelerating the construction of a pipeline that can send oil around the Strait of Hormuz to the shipping ports of Fujairah.
The Strait of Ormuz crystallises global energy tensions. Faced with its closure, the United Arab Emirates is relying on a new West-East pipeline, which is expected to double its export capacity by 2027.
