Taskforce Summit Detectives Investigating Dezi Freeman's Movements After Police Killings Arrest Two Men
Police say the arrests are part of a Taskforce Summit probe into Freeman’s movements and possible support network after the killings of two officers.
On Tuesday, Victoria Police and NSW Police executed seven search warrants across Buckland, Stanley, Lucyvale, Greenwich Park, Tarlo, Wombeyan Caves, and Umina Beach as part of the Taskforce Summit investigation.
Freeman spent 216 days on the run after fatally shooting Detective Leading Senior Constable Neal Thompson and Senior Constable Vadim de Waart-Hottart in Porepunkah last August, before being shot dead in Thologolong this past March.
Police arrested a 64-year-old man in Wodonga and a 47-year-old man in Greenwich Park during the raids; investigators believe Freeman received assistance from multiple people while evading capture.
Taskforce Summit Detective Inspector Anthony Gasparini stated police are working to "piece together the events" of Freeman's flight and hold accountable those who provided support to "harbour a wanted fugitive."
Two separate inquests have been scheduled to examine the deaths of the officers and Freeman's fatal shooting, while authorities urge anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers Victoria.
