Two Latvian nationals arrested on suspicion of trespass offences at RAF base
Counterterrorism police are investigating a possible national security breach after the men were found inside the base perimeter and a vehicle was recovered.
- On Oct 8, two Latvian nationals aged 36 and 32 were arrested inside the perimeter of RAF Molesworth in Cambridgeshire at 02:00hrs, Cambridgeshire Constabulary said.
- Defence security patrols identified an abandoned vehicle near the perimeter on Wednesday at around 10pm, prompting Officers to conduct further searches around the site.
- Counter Terrorism Policing re-arrested the two men on suspicion of an offence under the National Security Act, specifically "entering a prohibited place for a purpose prejudicial to the UK."
- Investigators are carrying out two searches at addresses in the Peterborough area as Counter Terrorism Policing London leads the probe, with enquiries ongoing.
- Commander Helen Flanagan said there is "nothing to suggest this incident is connected to the events at RAF Fairford last week," urging public vigilance.
