Search Underway in Topsham for 2 Missing Girls From Woodside Elementary
Authorities have initiated a shelter-in-place order and are actively searching for Olivia Burch and Sofia Garza, both 7-year-old second graders last seen on the school playground.
- Topsham Police Department said Thursday that two second-grade students were reported missing from Woodside Elementary School, and a search with local law enforcement was underway.
- Authorities say the children left the school playground on foot around 10:45 a.m., and Woodside Elementary School entered a standard 'shelter in place' while continuing regular learning inside.
- The Sagadahoc County EMA identified the children as Olivia Burch and Sofia Garza; a neighbor found them in woods about 100 yards from the school, police said.
- Police announced the girls were found safe about three hours later, Topsham Police Chief Marc Hagan said they were 'safe and sound', families were notified, Superintendent Heidi O'Leary thanked responders, and school pickup and dismissal at 3:15 p.m. proceeded as normal.
- Officials urged anyone with information to call Topsham Police Department at 207-725-4337 or Woodside Elementary School at 207-798-3688, and William Collins said police believe the girls left on their own and face no danger.
