Twins’ Mick Abel, Royals’ Carter Jensen bond over rare Abel rookie card
Carter Jensen, a rookie catcher for the Kansas City Royals, returned the rare Topps Superfractor rookie autographed card after learning how much it meant to Mick Abel.
Kansas City Royals rookie catcher Carter Jensen pulled Twins pitcher Mick Abel's rare 1/1 Topps Superfractor autographed card at Best Card Shop in Plainfield, Ind., then returned the valuable item to Abel.
Both players are avid collectors; Abel rediscovered his passion after being drafted and has sought to collect every card featuring him since his Team USA debut with father Neil and brother Theron.
Jensen, then with the Royals' Triple-A affiliate, opened the card after a game against the Indianapolis affiliate. Abel, with Triple-A St. Paul at the time, connected with Jensen through a mutual friend.
The St. Paul Saints and Storm Chasers faced each other in Omaha the following week, enabling the players to meet before a game. Jensen returned the Superfractor; Abel gave him a baseball signed '1/1.'
Abel continues hunting for his debut patch card, another 1/1 item featuring the sleeve patch from his first major league start last May. He has unsuccessfully reached out to the collector who found it in Seattle.
