JOHNSONVILLE COMBUSTION TURBINE PLANT NEAR NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE, JUL 9 – Ten new fast-start aeroderivative gas turbines add 500 megawatts to TVA's grid, enough to power nearly 300,000 homes and help meet peak electricity demand.
- The Tennessee Valley Authority announced on Wednesday that 10 new aeroderivative gas turbines added 500 megawatts to its power grid near Nashville.
- TVA plans to add approximately 6,200 MW of new capacity, with more than 3,500 MW currently being built to address increasing energy needs.
- Each turbine at the Johnsonville facility can start from a cold state and reach maximum output within five minutes, typically producing 50 megawatts, with the capability to deliver as much as 57 to 59 megawatts under optimal conditions.
- The TVA supplies electricity to nearly all of Tennessee’s service area and supports over 1.2 million customers via a network of 25 local utilities, delivering energy to more than 10 million individuals throughout seven states.
- This grid expansion supports economic growth and reliability in the Tennessee Valley, while Tennessee and Virginia pursue unique nuclear development strategies to sustain future energy needs.
