UNITED STATES, AUG 1 – The order aims to combat childhood obesity by reinstating a fitness challenge discontinued in 2012, with Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. overseeing its administration.
- On Thursday, President Donald Trump will sign an executive order in the Roosevelt Room to revive the Presidential Fitness Test and reestablish the President's Council on Sports, Fitness & Nutrition.
- The order, the White House says, addresses a 'widespread epidemic of declining health and physical fitness' among children and notes Obama abandoned the test in 2012 for the FitnessGram.
- The event also features Bryson DeChambeau, Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker and former New York Giants linebacker Lawrence Taylor.
- In a statement to CNN, Leavitt told, `'President Trump wants every young American to have the opportunity to emphasize healthy, active lifestyles — creating a culture of strength and excellence for years to come,'` Leavitt said.
