- The funding fight began last October when the Trump administration withheld Gateway funding citing DEI principles, was ordered on Feb. 6 to pay $205 million frozen since Oct. 1, 2025, amid denied renaming requests linked to Sen. Chuck Schumer.
- To keep crews paid, Gateway used a $500 million line of credit, but construction will not resume until the full $205 million is released, with delays costing $20 million a month.
- Two federal lawsuits challenged the funding freeze, and a judge ordered DOT to release funds, with a court hearing scheduled for Feb. 23, according to the Gateway Development Commission.
- Under the funding deal, the federal share is capped at $12 billion for the $16 billion project, and Trump insisted Monday, `under no circumstances, will the Federal Government be responsible for ANY COST OVERRUNS`.
