The U.S. Coast Guard has seized multiple sanctioned Venezuelan oil tankers to cut off revenues for Nicolás Maduro’s regime amid claims linking the actions to drug interdiction efforts.
- On Monday, President Donald Trump said the US is in active pursuit of an oil tanker and will retain oil and ships seized, including the Panama-flagged Centuries and the sanctioned Bella 1.
- The announcement came alongside a large U.S. military presence as last week Trump called Venezuela a Foreign Terrorist Organization and ordered a blockade amid 15,000 U.S. troops and 11 warships nearby.
