- On Tuesday , President Donald Trump told Argentine President Javier Milei at the White House that BRICS harms the U.S. dollar and warned he would impose tariffs on countries joining the bloc.
- Earlier this year Mr. Trump imposed tariffs on multiple countries, including 50% on Indian exports, while BRICS expanded to ten full members, increasing its global influence.
- Speaking at a bilateral meeting with Argentine President Javier Milei on Tuesday, Trump told reporters he was very strong on the dollar and said anybody who deals in dollars will have an advantage.
- Last month, BRICS warned that rising tariffs risk marginalising the Global South, and India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said `Regarding the role of the dollar, we are realistic. We have no issue with the dollar, and our relations with the US are at their best. We have no interest in undermining the dollar`.
