Trump administration designates four European Antifa groups as terrorists
- On Thursday, the U.S. State Department said it was moving to designate four self-styled "antifa" groups, including Germany-based Antifa Ost, and named groups in Italy and Greece, including the Informal Anarchist Federation/International Revolutionary Front .
- Amid a policy push, the administration said the designation aligns with President Donald Trump's National Security Presidential Memorandum-7 and cited attacks in Germany and Hungary, with Hungary already designating Antifa Ost a terrorist entity.
- The State Department noted that Antifa Ost conducted numerous attacks in Germany between 2018 and 2023 and is accused of attacks in Budapest in mid-February 2023.
- If finalised, the listings would take effect on November 20, and the State Department said this would make it illegal for U.S. citizens to seek membership or support, including donations.
- Extending the approach abroad, officials are targeting Antifa Ost after the September Antifa domestic designation and Hungary's terrorist label, marking a rare U.S. step against anti-fascist groups overseas.

The German Antifa group "has carried out numerous attacks on people," according to the U.S. government.
In addition to the German left-wing extreme group "Antifa Ost", three groups from Italy and Greece will also be led as foreign terrorist organizations, so-called "Foreign Terrorist Organisation" (FTO) from 20 November.
