VENEZUELA, JUL 17 – The Trump administration targeted Tren de Aragua leaders to disrupt their criminal network involved in drug trafficking, human smuggling, and extortion impacting public safety across the Western Hemisphere.
- The United States Treasury imposed sanctions on six key leaders and affiliates of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua , including its leader Hector Rusthenford Guerrero Flores, also known as "Niño Guerrero."
- TdA is considered an "influential organization that threatens public safety throughout the Western Hemisphere," and has grown to become as serious a threat as the Salvadoran gang MS-13.
- The sanctions allow the U.S. to seize property of the designated individuals in the U.S. or controlled by U.S. entities, as part of efforts to "dismantle" TdA and "disrupt the group's campaign of violence.
