Training Aircraft Crashes Near Baramati Airport in Pune
The trainee pilot was not seriously injured, and police said the cause remains under investigation after the aircraft hit a light pole before landing.
On Wednesday, May 13, 2026, a trainer aircraft operated by Redbird Flight Training Academy crash-landed near Gojubavi village in Maharashtra after developing a technical malfunction.
The trainee pilot, the aircraft's sole occupant, escaped unharmed when the aircraft struck a light pole at 8:50 am, Pune Superintendent of Police Sandeep Singh Gill confirmed.
Confirming the incident, Shivaji Taware, Director of Baramati Airport, reported no casualties. "Necessary inquiry and further action are underway," Taware added.
Procedural steps include an Accidental Deaths Report filed by the Maharashtra CID, while the Aircraft Accident Investigation examines the technical failure. Aircraft from the same company have previously been involved in accidents in the district.
This incident follows a fatal January 28 crash involving a Learjet registered as VT-SSK that killed Ajit Pawar. Authorities continue to review safety protocols following that tragedy and subsequent academy incidents.
