Toyota confirmed that part of the assembly of one of its models, currently done in Tijuana, will be moved to Texas. The decision has generated uncertainty about its potential effects on the automotive industry and the economy of Baja California.
Octavio Sandoval López, the coordinating president of the Baja California Business Coordinating Council (CCE), called it “incorrect,” “confusing,” and “deceptive” for authorities to claim that “only one production line is being moved,” following Toyota's announcement that it will transfer its Tacoma pickup truck production from Baja California to its San Antonio, Texas plant, in a process that will conclude in 2030.
