MONTEREY — Monterey Town Council late last week issued an emergency ordinance due to the lack of rain and persistent drought conditions.
Under the ordinance, which is in effect for 60 days, anyone getting water from the town may not water their lawns, gardens or flowers, wash vehicles, or use water for any purpose other than normal household or business use.
Violations are a misdemeanor subject to a $100 fine.
