Cost and a lack of guidance are keeping seniors from retrofitting their homes to prevent falls later, according to new research from Newfoundland and Labrador's seniors' advocate.

Falls in old age are a special geriatric problem. Usually, balance problems are the triggers. Due to lower vision or hearing loss, orientation problems can quickly occur in the room, but cardiovascular problems also increase the risk. The best that older people can do about it is fall prevention. Sufficient bright light or non-slip substrates help on the one hand, but the A and O is movement so that mobility can last as long as possible...
