High-Profile Arrest: ADGP Jayaram Accused in Abduction Case
On Monday, June 16, 2025, HM Jayaram, a senior police official serving as ADGP, was taken into custody in Tiruvallur in connection with the kidnapping of a 15-year-old boy.
The arrest followed a Madras High Court order amid investigations into the abduction of a teenager related to an inter-caste marriage between a 21-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man.
Jayaram was taken to Thiruvalangadu police station, interrogated for six hours, and his official car was allegedly used in the abduction, with several accused arrested after the police probe.
The Madras High Court ordered Jayaram's arrest and instructed MLA Poovai M. Jagan Moorthy, also linked to the case, to cooperate with the investigation, while Jayaram sought a Supreme Court stay on Tuesday.
Following the arrest, the Tamil Nadu government suspended Jayaram on June 17, 2025, and the High Court scheduled the next hearing for June 26 to prioritize adjudication.
