Brady Tkachuk Says It’s ‘Time for the Next Chapter’ as Fans Sour on Blockbuster Trade
Ottawa received four draft picks as Brady Tkachuk said he chose a harder path to join a Stanley Cup contender.
The Ottawa Senators traded captain Brady Tkachuk to the Florida Panthers on Sunday in a blockbuster deal, with Ottawa receiving four draft picks for the 26-year-old who joins his older brother Matthew Tkachuk in South Florida.
Senators president and general manager Steve Staios confirmed that Brady Tkachuk requested a trade about 10 days after the season ended, having previously told management he would not sign an extension when his current deal expires.
Brady Tkachuk told Matthew on their 'Wingmen' podcast that the Panthers' success in 2024 and 2025 drove his decision. "I made this decision taking you out of it. It wasn't about you," he said.
Following the announcement, the brothers appeared on their 'Wingmen' podcast and The Pat McAfee Show, then Brady attended a Panthers news conference to discuss his transition to this new chapter.
The move reunites the brothers after they won gold at the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics, while their father Keith Tkachuk was recently inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, marking a significant week for the family.
