- A scholar and administrator, Darma holds a Doctor of Business Administration from the University of Liverpool and a PhD in Industrial Engineering from Atlantic International University, USA, having previously served as Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund.
- Previously the Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport in Katsina State, Darma also led the Umaru Musa Yar Adua Human Development Centre, with President Tinubu calling him a "fitting peg in the right position."
- Senior Special Assistant to the President on Information and Strategy Bayo Onanuga announced the appointment on Friday, noting the President urged the new minister to serve in any capacity required.
