Tiger Involved in Fatal UK Wildlife Park Attack 'Safe' and Will Not Be Euthanised
Police said the man died after entering the enclosure, and the park confirmed Altai is safe and will not be euthanised.
On Saturday, October 10, 2026, a man died after scaling a fence into the Land of the Tigers enclosure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park near Doncaster. South Yorkshire Police confirmed he was pronounced dead at the scene following the attack.
Witnesses observed the man posing for photos with Altai, an Amur tiger, and dancing with his AirPods approximately 20 minutes before entering the enclosure. Bystanders reported he asked a stranger to photograph him with the animal in the background.
Zookeepers fired shots into the air to distract the tiger and allow emergency services to enter the enclosure; Altai remained uninjured and was not shot during the rescue attempt, despite initial fears.
Yorkshire Wildlife Park confirmed Altai is 'safe and well' and will not be euthanized following the tragedy. The facility remains closed today, Sunday, October 11, while staff receive specialist support.
Tickets remain available for entry to Yorkshire Wildlife Park from Monday, October 12 onwards. Management emphasized that visitor, staff, and animal safety remain the highest priority as the site cooperates with ongoing police inquiries.
