Colombia Hosts First Hague Group Summit to Finalize Action Against Israel’s Gaza Offensive
BOGOTÁ, COLOMBIA, JUL 15 – The Hague Group, led by Colombia, aims to enforce ICC arrest warrants and block arms shipments to Israel amid over 58,000 deaths in Gaza, officials said.
- An emergency two-day ministerial conference convened by the Hague Group took place on July 15-16, 2025, in Bogota, Colombia, to coordinate actions against Israel's offensive in Gaza.
- The summit followed Israel's assault that began in October 2023 after Hamas attacks, with member states accusing Israel of genocide and violations of international law amid divided global responses.
- Delegates from over 30 countries, including Algeria, Bolivia, China, and South Africa, discussed diplomatic, judicial, and economic measures such as ICC warrant enforcement and sanctions to pressure Israel.
- South African Minister Ronald Lamola emphasized that the gathering represents a pivotal moment in addressing violations of international law, declaring, “No country is above the law” and “No crime will go unanswered,” while Francesca Albanese called on nations to immediately halt all relations with Israel.
- The conference indicated an intensifying global divide where some governments oppose Israel's actions and advocate for justice, while the U.S. opposes efforts to use international law against Israel, suggesting continued tensions ahead.
