The Ministry of the Interior accuses the imam of the Bleuets Mosque of making remarks “inciting violence and discrimination”. Mosque officials have ten days to respond to the ministry's grievances in an attempt to avoid a closure.
Some 300 to 350 worshipers attend the Bleuets Mosque in the north of the city, according to the authorities. The French imam Ismail (Smain Bendjilali) who preaches there, also known for his presence on social networks, disputes the accusations made against him.
The Bouches-du-Rhône police prefect notified the Bleuets Mosque in Marseille on Tuesday, August 20, of his intention to close it, considering that “remarks legitimizing violence” have been made there for years.
The Bleuets Mosque is under an administrative closure procedure, initiated by the Bouches-du-Rhône Police Headquarters at the request of the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin.
“The main imam of this mosque defends a fundamentalist vision that legitimizes the use of violence”, explains the prefect of Bouches-du-Rhône
