  • On Friday, U.S. Under Secretary for Arms Control and International Security Thomas DiNanno announced a new $4 billion Foreign Military Financing loan for Poland to bolster its defense capabilities.
  • Poland successfully conducted the inaugural flight of its first batch of F-35s on Friday, becoming the first NATO-member on the alliance's eastern flank to acquire these advanced aircraft.
  • This financial assistance brings total funds available to Poland for arms purchases to $20 billion, supplementing a 2020 deal worth $4.6 billion for 32 of the jets.
  • Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz announced, "We have included two additional squadrons of 5th-generation F-35 aircraft," during the ceremony also attended by Polish President Karol Nawrocki.
  • Deliveries of the aircraft will continue through 2029, as Polish officials say the F-35s will provide a major boost to the country's defence capabilities.
