Lawmakers in Russia’s lower-house State Duma on Tuesday passed a bill banning advertising through organizations designated as “undesirable” or “extremist,” a move likely to steer businesses away from promoting their services on platforms like Facebook and Instagram.

In two readings (the second and third), the State Duma adopted a law banning advertising on the resources of organizations whose activities were considered undesirable in Russia, including Instagram* and Facebook*. According to an RTVI correspondent, 383 deputies supported the law, and 14 voted against.
