Saints Agree to Terms with Running Back Ty Chandler
Ty Chandler, 27, joins the Saints on a one-year, $1.2 million deal to bolster running back depth amid uncertainty over Alvin Kamara's status.
On Mar 17, 2026, New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis announced the signing of veteran running back Ty Chandler to a one-year deal worth roughly $1.2 million.
Amid uncertainty over Alvin Kamara's future, the Saints signed Chandler to bolster running back depth after they made a splash last week by signing Travis Etienne.
Chandler missed most of 2025 with a knee injury and appeared in only three games last season, rushing 47 yards on 17 carries; he ran a 4.38 40-yard dash and totaled 3,245 all-purpose yards in college at Tennessee and North Carolina.
The signing gives the Saints a special-teams option and offensive backup, potentially affecting roster decisions and Alvin Kamara’s status amid recent trade rumors.
The move follows the Saints' broader free-agency push to fill roster holes, as Minnesota has now lost three offensive skilled-position players and teams typically carry 5 to 7 running backs.
