When Mr. Shelly (Sholom) Baer was drafted to the U.S. Army in 1959, the Rebbe gave him a pair of tefillin with a firm request: put them on every day and say the Shema no matter what. Through near-death experiences in Korea and clear demonstrations of hashgacha pratis, the Rebbe's tefillin saved his life.
