The Provincial Council of Bizkaia has carried out an intervention to improve the natural environment of the Artibai River in Berriatu. Specifically, it has removed the large banana trees that were on the riverbank and, in their place, has planted a native forest of 1,600 trees, such as alder, ash, oak and hazelnut, along 500 meters of the riverbank, on a total area of 10,000 square meters. The work was carried out in four months.

The Diputación Foral de Bizkaia has completed an intervention to recover the natural environment of the river Artibai, in the municipality of Berriatua. The action has consisted of the removal of large banana trees occupying the riverbank and its replacement by an indigenous forest with 1,600 new specimens.
