Uber, one of the world's largest ride-hailing companies, has suffered a major setback. The Netherlands' data protection authority has imposed a hefty fine of 825 million euros, or approximately ₹9,000 crore.
On May 21, the Dutch Data Protection Authority announced an €825 million fine against Uber, the US ride-hailing service operator, for violating the EU's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) by suspending driver accounts through an automated system without adequately fulfilling its obligations to inform and conduct manual verification.
