The sound heard in Belgrade on March 15th during one of the largest anti-government protests in Serbian history was described by people as hellish, like the sound of an airplane or “like something out of a movie.” It made them feel nauseous and anxious. The opposition is certain: the police caused it. But President Aleksandar Vučić denied the accusations and invited the Russian FSB and the American FBI to investigate.

The deadline given by the European Court of Human Rights for authorities to respond to questions about the possible use of sonic weapons at the March 15 protest has passed. What are the competences of the European Court and what does the temporary measure that the court can initiate mean?
