MONTEREY— After an hour of debate, multiple failed motions, and recalculations of several different scenarios, the Highland County Board of Supervisors adopted a budget Monday and raised real estate tax rates. The second consolidation will again hurt ordinary people. For example, property taxes will increase. The government has already notified the European Commission of this, along with other measures such as an increase in gambling taxes. At the same time, the government is asking the Commission for an exemption from European rules - so that defense spending is not counted in our debt.
