This summer, former Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Carl Bildt (M) submitted an investigation proposal to Defense Minister Pål Jonson (M) that involves a radical reshuffle of Swedish intelligence operations. Unfortunately, the government is now choosing to move forward with the proposals, despite the extensive and initiated criticism that has come from, among others, the Swedish National Security Agency and the Swedish Armed Forces.
The government is moving forward with plans for a new civilian intelligence service directly under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The idea is that the agency will strengthen Sweden's ability to analyze events and alleged threats in the outside world and complement the military intelligence service.
