Swedish government plans sixfold increase in deported criminals
Proposed new rules could lead to a sixfold increase in the number of foreigners sentenced to deportation for committing crimes in Sweden, a government-commissioned inquiry believes.
Deportation is already proposed upon prison sentence: "Now it's finally settled"
Deportation should be possible for all crimes that have a more severe penalty than a fine, that re-entry bans should be extended and in more cases not be time-limited at all. This is what an investigation suggests. – Now it is finally time to deal with people who come to Sweden and commit crimes here, says Migration Minister Johan Forssell (M), at a press conference.
More people to be deported – increasing the penalty
The investigation that will make it possible to deport more criminals is complete. The chairman of the Justice Committee, Henrik Vinge (SD), welcomes several of the proposals. “It is good that greater consideration is given to the perspective of the victim and the public rather than the perspective of the criminal,” he says.
